Yes, No, Maybe So: Maleficent

"Yes, No, Maybe So" is one of the trademark series of my favorite movie-themed blog, "The Film Experience". I don't want to copy it, but "Maleficent" started at theaters last week in my country, and I just have to do it for this movie, especially because I always knew how I would do it, very minimalistically, in very few words:

Yes: Elle Fanning <3

No: Angelina Jolie *ewww*

No: Disney *ewww*

Maybe So: I kind of have a thing for animation turned real-life action!

Of course, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Examples? Well, Batman movies (two of them suck), Spider-Man movies, Alice In Wonderland movies (one of them sucks), movies based on the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, Kick-Ass movies, Bibi Blocksberg movies, Asterix and Obelix movies (they suck) ... I bet I'm forgetting many...

That's all that first came to mind, but there's even more, actually:

No: My favorite movie magazine, the German "Cinema" writes that the director of the movie is the production designer of "Avatar", and that it shows. *ewww³*

Maybe So: My aforementioned favorite movie-themed blog, "The Film Experience" writes that part of it feels a lot like "Snow White and the Huntsmen". I haven't seen it, but I'm very interested, since IMHO both Charlize Theron and K-Stew are very good and very underappreciated (well, Charlize not so much underappreciated) actresses.

However, they make it sound like it's a bad thing. Like they're trying to copycat the original, and it turns out really cheap and bad...

About this blog

This blog isn't really supposed to have one persistent theme or something like that. I'll just write about what I feel to write about, and I have no claim to express objective or even majority opinions. Among the topics I want to cover is

- I will rant about whoever I think is great or beautiful, or anything, and why, and I won't apologize or take shit for it. Therefore I chose the blog title. As beauty is and always will be in the eyes of the beholder. Both "iofthebeholder" which I originally intended, and "eyeofthebeholder" were already taken at blogspot, so I chose "isofthebeholder" or "I's of the Beholder", as in "eyes", but the "I" expresses that these eyes are my eyes only, and not anyone else's.

- I will write about movies, actors and Oscars from time to time, as I'm very interested in it, but I want to say upfront that other bloggers do that better than I ever will. I will link to some of them later, and comment on them from time to time. I consider my taste in movies quite unique, I've never met a person who seemed to have anything close to my taste, and my taste may seem full of contradictions. What I hate is people whose "taste" just reflects the mainstream opinion. If anything they shouldn't write about movies. They should work for the propaganda ministerium, which of course doesn't exist. Or does it? Yes, I'm also sometimes a hobby conspiracy theorist.

- TV will take a larger spot than in other more or less movie themed blogs, because I follow and have followed many TV series more or less religiously in my life.

- I will also mention, comment and speculate about gossip, because it's a guilty pleasure of mine. There's a great gossip site I discovered recently, and I will for sure link to it and discuss what is written there.

- Maybe I will write about politics and society at large when I feel like it, but I don't really intend this blog to be political.

- I often enjoy sick humor and mean-spirited satire, and if I find something I find so hilarious that I want to share this with the world, I probably will.

- But the joke doesn't always have to be sick to work for me. I'm an even bigger sucker for pop culture references, the kind you get in shows like "The Simpsons", "South Park", "Family Guy", "American Dad" etc., and I intend to quote and discuss them when I feel like it.

That about roughly lines out my general ideas for this blog. I hope some of it will be interesting for one fellow internet citizen or the other.
